Why should you choose this Apprenticeship?
This NVQ is ideal for those working in an advice and guidance
setting. It is designed for full or part time workers, paid and
voluntary, permanent or temporary, as well as day or night workers.
The qualification aims to provide those working in customer support
or administration functions in an advice and/or guidance
organisation with an introduction to Advice and Guidance.
What job roles are relevant to this Apprenticeship?
Job roles include receptionist and administrator involved in giving
advice, particularly in the early stages of a clients’ contact with
the service. The Apprenticeship is suitable for full or part time
workers, paid or voluntary, employed within, for example, the
Connexions Service, career guidance, youth work or housing
partnerships. This list is by no means exhaustive and if a form of
advice is given in the role you are currently or would like to work
in this qualification may be relevant to you.
On completion of this NVQ you will be able to:
- Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance
service
- Interact with clients using a range of media
- Identify client requirements
- Maintain client information materials
- Develop a personal performance through delivering customer
service
How long does the Apprenticeship take?
There are no time restrictions so you can study at your own pace,
however the course typically takes learners from 6- 9 months to
complete, but this will depend upon the learners experience and
their desire to progress.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking
this NVQ; however candidates should have the potential and
opportunity to gain work based evidence for the qualification in
the work place.
What will I get at the end?
On successful completion of the qualification you will receive an
NVQ, Key Skills (where applicable) and a Technical certificate in
Advice and Guidance Support. These elements make up the
Apprenticeship framework.
How will the Apprenticeship be assessed?
Each unit structure is made up from elements which are applicable
to an advice and guidance role including key skills such as
application of number and communication. All assessments are work
based and planned in advance to occur every 3-6 weeks.
ENVQ
The learning programme and each assessment will be loaded to the
ENVQ system, which is designed to create a portfolio of work based
evidence throughout the qualification. A review visit is carried
out at your workplace every 10 – 12 weeks with your Line Manager
present.

Successful completion of this recognised qualification will set you
apart from the competition and provide you with an excellent
stepping stone into a range of career paths including client facing
roles such as receptionists and administrator roles.
Progression
This NVQ will provide progression to higher levels of
qualification. A number of the units in Level 2 Advice and Guidance
Support are directly transferable into the Customer Service Level 2
Apprenticeship or Business and Administration Level 2 and
beyond.
