Employer requirements

Here’s what is expected of you as an employer

It is essential that you give your Apprentice an induction into their role and provide on-the-job training and support throughout your employees studies.

Wages & holiday allowance

As an employer you are also responsible for the wages of your apprentice which should be at least £95 a week, all Apprentices aged over 16 must pay tax and national insurance on their income, and be given at least 20 days’ paid holiday per year plus bank holidays.

Hours of work

An Apprentice must be offered a minimum of 16 hours of work per week to complete an Apprenticeship, usually; most Apprentices are employed full time.

Flexibility for learning

Most training can be carried out in the work place or at one of Kaplan’s 29 centres, tuition is flexible and is one day per week, to minimise disruption to the working week.

Support & mentoring

As an employer you will have to ensure that you provide support and mentoring throughout the programme to ensure you provide effective training.
