Description

The Finance Apprentice role is a developmental position within the CBS Finance function. Within the Finance function you will support with the finance accounting, completing Balance Sheet Reconciliation, recording monthly double entry journals, supporting VAT Returns and owning a number of cross charge processes. During the apprenticeship you will study for a professional accountancy qualification.
  • Compiles, consolidates, and conducts basic analysis of accounting and finance information.
  • Assists with the production of monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Makes accounting adjustments through appropriate journal entries.
  • Assists with monthly and annual account reconciliations and close activities. Examines a variety of financial statements and transactions for completeness, internal accuracy, and conformance with accounting standards.
  • Prepares tables, charts, and other exhibits for reports.
  • May perform less complex accounting projects or participate as a team member on more complex projects.

  • Reconcile the company benefit account proactively, ensuring all inbound costs are reviewed and allocated to the correct end destination in a timely manner, communicating with key stakeholders.
  • Identify efficiencies in own processes and drive improvements.
  • Reconcile and allocate monthly car lease and fuel payments between entities. Account for intercompany cross charge entries and liaise with internal customers.
  • Reconcile monthly Travel Expenses for all UK entities and proactively work with key stakeholders.
  • Support with CORP Reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Record additional month end double entry journals as required (including prepayments and accruals).
  • Responsible for being an authorized approver on Manual Payment requests Provision of audit information as/when required.
  • To support Finance Graduate when required.
  • To be an active team member, offering flexibility to support the team when required.

Skills Required

  • Ability to translate skills learnt through study to a work-based environment.

Qualification Required

  • Level 3 AAT (Desirable) or
  • A Level preferably one in Maths or Accounting, or/and AAT.
  • GCSE's grades 9/A* - 4/C including Maths and English.

Training

Professional Diploma - AAT Level 4

Professional is the final level, teaching you more complex accounting theory, and lets you choose two specialist subjects. You’ll learn about budgeting, management accounting, preparing financial statements, accounting systems, and tax.

This level builds on the knowledge you gained in the Advanced Diploma (Level 3). After qualifying you can work in accounting roles or progress onto studying chartered accountancy.

The course is made up of three mandatory units (also known as subjects), one synoptic unit, and five optional units. You must pass all the mandatory assessments, synoptic assessment, and two optional unit assessments to achieve the qualification.

The areas you will cover include:

  • Financial Statements of Limited Companies
  • Management Accounting: Budgeting
  • Management Accounting: Decision and Control
  • Professional synoptic assessment (Accounting Systems and Controls)

Optional Units:

  • Business Tax

  • Personal Tax

  • External Auditing

  • Cash and Treasury Management

  • Credit Management

The Apprenticeship standard details the essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that somebody would need to demonstrate to be successful in this job role, this includes, Business Awareness, Ethics, Communication, Leadership, Planning and Prioritisation and Problem Solving. Apprentices will need to show they are competent in all the areas detailed in the standard when they take End Point Assessment.

The Knowledge areas of the standard will typically be covered through completion of the qualification. Skills and Behaviours are developed through workshops, e-learning, workplace training and practical experience provided ‘on-the-job’.
