Description

We are looking for a Junior Gameplay Engineer to support our Gameplay team and work collaboratively with design, narrative & art to prototype new, interesting & robust gameplay experiences. Working with the wider Engineering group, you’ll be designing & developing gameplay systems that stretch from the network layer, to gameplay, to screen. This is a fantastic opportunity to enter a AAA game studio, working on a brand-new IP in a cutting edge game engine & tech stack. You’ll be supported & encouraged by a team of experienced coders with a wide range of skill-sets & specialties, provided a mentor for your learning & development and be put on a career pathway that offers genuine opportunities for progression. As well as the opportunity to work collaboratively, creatively and constructively with other disciplines & stakeholders. Responsibilities will include-
  • Design, prototype and implement fun, interesting, robust & new gameplay experiences.
  • Build sustainable and scalable networked gameplay features.
  • Support the broader engineering discipline through creative problem solving to unique issues & designing new game systems that stretch from the network layer, to gameplay & to screen.
  • Work collaboratively & communicate effectively with the engineering team & other disciplines to maintain engineering excellence, a high quality of code across our codebase & appropriate documentation.
  • Complete assigned tasks to agreed deadlines & quality levels, providing feedback & contributions to team discussions.
  • Continue to develop your engineering & soft skills.

Skills Required

  • Relevant & demonstrable game demo/code sample/programming experience showcasing your C/C++.
  • A good understanding of computer science fundamentals & mathematics.
  • Excellent levels of written & oral communication, an ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organisational skills & able to prioritise their workload.

Qualification Required

Formal education qualification that's provided a good understanding of computer science fundamentals & maths.

Training

Game Programmer Apprenticeship Level 7.

Game Programmers / Developers create dependable and efficient software within the constraints of real-time graphical environments running on contemporary gaming platforms. Individuals provide their expertise in a range of areas including gameplay mechanics, asset pipelines, and custom technologies to keep the organisation at the forefront of the industry.


As well as developing technical skills using a range of core technologies and platforms, we support our learners with the ability to lead the design and development of bespoke systems and program reliable, efficient software to drive business change.


Our Game Programmer apprenticeship integrates 11 modules of technical training with work-based projects. This ensures that learning and skills are directly applied to the apprentice’s role, and maximises the time used as part of off-the-job training. Individuals will gain core knowledge and specific technical training across both game software programming and game technology programming, to allow them to pursue their preferred area.


For each module, learners benefit from attending small, scheduled Live Online classes taught by a subject matter specialist.

  • Game Theory

  • Game Data Algorithms

  • Game Engine Theory

  • Design Patterns

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Advanced Game Programming

  • Practical Procedural Generation

  • Game Scripts

  • Optional online development sessions

  • You have a passion for online games & a fundamental understanding of game design & gameplay ‘feel’ (ideally in the RPG/MMO genre).

Prospects

We have a defined career architecture for progression down both individual contributor and management pathways. The Junior Gameplay Engineer will also be supported in pursuing any specialism or areas they're passionate for outside of Gameplay, e.g. AI, Rendering, Audio Programming, Build, Engine, Netcode, etc.
